Music Festival 2010

The reason we went to Zanzibar was to catch the international music festival called Sauti za Busara, or Sounds of Wisdom.

The concert was held in an old castle, a ridiculously sick venue. I would strongly suggest that anyone who just happens to be in the neighborhood around Feb 2011, gimme a call, I'll most definitely be here again.

The castle from the outside.

The food vendors setting up shop. Tons of people selling local foods and fish. Sooo good.

The spread...

The festival during the day is chill acts you can just sit on the lawn and drink a beer to...

At night the acts get a little crazy...
Sorry about the lack of pictures. I took a ton of video, so once I figure out the best way to get that up here, I will.

Cheers,
Jayce

Raising the Zanzibar

So we had an amazing opportunity to check out the sick island of Zanzibar, just off the coast of TZ. We went to a great music festival (more pics to come), and had a great time chillin' on the beach all day. Here are some pics, most of which are scenic, wallpaper type stuff...

 Tough life...

 Pick-up game anyone?

Krissy, me and Steph on our way to prison island.

A savage pool overlooking the Indian ocean.

I can't decide what I am losing faster, my weight or my hair?

Zan is full of old Indian style architechture like this...

Who knew Freddy Mercury was born on Zanzibar? Lived there until he was 6.

Mlendin' a Hand

While in Cess' village we got a chance to cook everyone's favorite TZ dish, Mlenda. Its basically a random smattering of green plants boiled together until you get the consistancy (and taste) of snot.

Here are some action packed pictures of the event...

Just doin' my part to help of course...

Con-Man mixin' it up...

Who's hungry?

To top of the wonderful feast of Mlenda. Cessie busted open a care package of marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate. Never before has a smore tasted so good!

Mwamringa 'round the Rosie

So next stop was my village. Just outside, about 45 minutes from my house, are these gigantic rock formations. Just huge, scattered boulder piles everywhere. We went to the best one called Mwamringa.

Me, Cess, Con-Man, and my counterpart Issa, went up to the top to get an amazing panoramic view of both my village and Singida town. If you don't like rocks, you can stop reading now...

THE GOAT!!!!!!

So here are some pics of our wonderful goat feast. Since I killed the chickens at Thanksgiving, it was Cessie's turn to take a stab at things. She did an awesome job...

Oh and did I mention that Connor is a professional cook? Man this food was amazing. For more pics, check out Cessie's blog, I'm sure she has more info on it. I just ate and did dishes...

Cessie saying her final goodbyes to BraAaAaAad...

Like a champ, you should see the video...

Gettin' all the goodies out...

Just another day in the Hanj...

Dead goat walking...

To be, or not to be...

Bet you'll never guess whats brewin' in here... BALLS!

That's right. The amazing chef Connor whipped up an amazing helping of Ball Hash! We had so much more food including ribs, stew, wonderful kebabs, but this was the only meal worth mentioning.

The aftermath. Cessie, how can you be so cruel...

And, of course, my obligatory picture making it seem like I had any part in this. Which, of course, I didn't. Hats off to Cess and Con-Man.

Cheers,
Jayce

Ihanja Visit: Part Deux

So we met up with a guy named Conner who was backpacking through TZ. We told him that if he wanted a real African experience then he should come visit our villages. We had a blast, we slaughtered a goat, he got a tribal name, and he experienced the amazing event that is traveling to Cessie's village.

Here is Cessie's wonderful bus. Thankfully got us there in one piece...

We rode this all the way out to Cessie's well to fetch a pail of water.

Working the well...

Such a cute couple...

You can see the rains coming from across the way, pretty cool sight.
